  • mTuitive is constantly researching new ways to add value to our eCC implementations in CAP eFRM. As part of the CAP 2020 release, we have made a few changes and additions to our checklists to improve user experience and reduce user error. Continue reading for a summary of these changes.

    New Format for Tumor Size

There is a new format for entering Tumor Size. Previously, the user would enter Tumor Size in the Greatest Dimension in Centimeters question and could use the following Additional Dimension in Centimeters questions to add additional dimensions. If the Greatest Dimension could not be determined, the user would skip the Greatest Dimension in Centimeters question and answer the Reason Size Cannot be Determined question.

The old format for entering Tumor Size (2019 and earlier).

Now, Greatest Dimension in Centimeters and Reason Size Cannot be Determined are both included in the Tumor Size question. If tumor size can be determined, the user selects "Greatest Dimension in Centimeters (cm)" and enters a decimal number in the corresponding field on the right. If tumor size cannot be determined, the user selects "Cannot be determined (explain)" and enters the reason in the corresponding field on the right. Additional dimensions can still be entered in the following Additional Dimension in Centimeters question(s). This change does not impact how these sections will appear in your report.

    New Format for Lymph Nodes

Lymph Node questions have a new format for entering measurements (this includes both count and dimensions). Previously, once the type of measurement was selected (eg. Specify exact number involved), the user would need to enter the measurement in the following question.

The old format for entering Number of Lymph Nodes Involved and other lymph node measurements (2019 and earlier).

Now, the user will select the method of measurement using the radio buttons, then enter the measurement in the corresponding field to the right. This change does not impact how these sections will appear in your report.

Using Repeating Sections with Tumor Focality

In 2019, mTuitive introduced repeating sections. We are now using these repeating sections for Tumor Characteristics in multifocal tumors in both the "Thyroid - Resection" and "Hepatocellular Carcinoma - Hepatic Resection" checklists. Watch the video below for a demonstration of repeating sections.

When there are multifocal tumors—like in a Thyroid Resection specimen—users can repeat a section and all of its fields. This is a quick and easy way to capture vital information for multifocal tumor sections as needed.
When you wish to repeat a section, they will click the GREEN PLUS SIGN next to the section title to have it repeat in the report.
[Please note: None of the previously entered in information will repeat, just the section and fields themselves.]
Users will then fill out this section accordingly, with all the vital specimen and diagnostic information as usual.
While it will vary between Laboratory Information Systems, these sections will still appear in the final report in synoptic format as structured data and easily discernible between each other. This allows for easy communication to all necessary physicians.
If you realize you don’t need or want to repeat a section, simply click on the RED X next to the section and it will be erased. You will be asked to verify this decision—in case it was an accident and because you will lose any information entered in to that section. Once deleted, it will no longer appear in the report.

    New Alerts for Conflicting Answers

Our team has added new alerts that trigger when the user enters two or more answers that conflict with one another. Examples of new alerts we have added in the 2020 release include:

    • Alert when entering 0 Regional Lymph Nodes involved in a checklist that should not be used if 0 Regional Lymph Nodes are involved.
    • Alert when selecting a Tumor Extension that conflicts with selecting "Present" for Lymphovascular or Perineural Invasion.
    • Alert when entering "At Least 0" Regional Lymph Nodes in some checklists.
    • Alert when entering a Greatest Dimension of 0 in a checklist that should not be used if Greatest Dimension is 0.
    • Alert when there is a conflict between Greatest Dimension and Tumor Extension.
    • Alert when entering 1 Regional Lymph Node involved when "Bilateral" is selected for Laterality.
